Project
One - Main Abbey
A commissioned report from Historic Scotland confirms that considerable
work is required to preserve the remains of Kinloss Abbey. Work
was done in the mid 1990's to remove ivy and consolidate masonry
in the Abbey. No further work has been done since 1995. There
has been a significant amount of ivy-growth, further deterioration
of masonry and some vandalism which will need to be addressed
if the ruins of the Abbey are to be conserved for future generations.
Following the report from Historic Scotland the Trust commissioned
specialist Architects Law and Dunbar-Nasmith to prepare a fabric
report and schedule of work for this project. An Interpretation
element of the project was put together by MkW Design Partnership
of Edinburgh who have designed interpretation panels and leaflets
for the Abbey. The Moray Council and BEAR Scotland have provisioned
for road signs to bring visitors to the site from the A96. In
addition a book on the history of the Abbey, written by one of
the Trustees, will be published by the Trust and made available
through local outlets. All proceeds going back into the Trust.
The completed work will ensure that the remains are preserved,
provide safe access and stimulate an active interest in the local
history through the interpretative panels, guided tours, leaflets
etc.
